The Brazilian ambassador in Tehran, stating that Petrobras has focused the bulk of its activities on Brazil's oil industry, announced the closure of this oil giant's office in Tehran and declared that Petrobras currently has no intention of returning to Iran's oil industry.
According to the Afkar news, Santiago Irazabal Mourao talked about the possible return of the Brazilian company Petrobras to oil and gas industries of Iran after a preliminary agreement between Iran and the 5 +1 countries. He said that Petrobras has currently dedicated the bulk of its activities to the development of Brazil's oil and gas industry.
The Brazilian ambassador in Tehran announced that Petrobras has initiated a wide range of activities to develop some of the Brazilian offshore oil and gas fields in deep water. According to this, he stated that the development of domestic activities of Brazil's oil and gas industry is the priority of Petrobras.
Emphasizing the fact that Petrobras has no plan of working on Iran's oil and gas industry, he asserted that its foreign and international activities have also decreased.
Stating that Petrobras has totally adhered to all its commitments toward an oil exploration contract in the Persian Gulf with the Iranian national oil company, Mourao explained that due to the priority of domestic activities, Petrobras does not just have any program to come back to Iran's oil and gas industry.
Confirming the closure of Brazil›s Petrobras office in Tehran, the Brazilian ambassador, responding to Mehr news agency about the possibility of the new cooperation of Iran's national oil company and Brazil›s Petrobras in deep water of the Caspian Sea, told that he does not know about this cooperation.
The most important joint project of Iran's national oil company and the Brazilian company Petrobras has been the discovery of new hydrocarbon reserves like Taftan in exploration blocks in the Persian Gulf.
Meanwhile, although this Brazilian company had informed about the discovery of oil reserves in this Iranian exploration block in the Persian Gulf through the drilling of two wells, the officials of the Iranian national oil company's exploration management had emphasized that, "the oil discovered by Brazil's Petrobras in Taftan (in the Persian Gulf) is not considerable and beneficial."
Having finished its exploration activities, The Brazilian company of Petrobras was one of the first foreign oil companies in Iran which closed its central office in Tehran.
Jorge Louise Zlada, the director of International Affairs of Brazil›s Petrobras had already referred to the termination of the exploration mission of this large South American oil company, and said; "the discoveries that had been made in Iran are not economically sufficient and therefore the permit for these explorations will be returned to the Iranian government".
The French news agency had already informed that the Brazilian oil giant Petrobras is considering to close its 38 branch offices which are placed out of the country and is going to focus on the exploitation of large oil fields hidden under a layer of salt water in Brazil.
