Iran – South Korea: Renewed Ties

As invited by South Korean Foreign Minister, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia - Pacific Affairs visited South Korea. During the visit, the officials, inter alia, discussed bilateral relations and regional developments.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister, Mr. Rahimpour, praised the amicable history of relations between the two countries as well as the peaceful spirit among the Korean people. He further elaborated the new government's efforts to build up effective international relations and discussed some positive developments in the neighboring countries including the upcoming elections in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan.
As to the latest progress on the nuclear program, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister maintained that despite existing disagreements, the general course of talks is moving forward positively and Iran is hopeful to reach final agreement with P5+1 soon. He, once again, extended his deepest condolences for the loss of lives in ferry disaster.
South Korean Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se reaffirmed that the Korean government placed high importance on mutual relations with Iran. He hoped that political and parliamentary exchanges between the two countries pave the ground for furthering relations in all aspects including economic, cultural and political. He highlighted the Korean companies' eagerness to expand commercial ties with Iran.
The meeting was also attended by Iranian Ambassador to South Korea and some MFA officials.
